When we last left off Waverly Sinner and Xavier Saint had gone their separate paths after he told her she was damaged and toxic. Now, five years later, they are about to be reunited in Breaking the Rules, the stunning conclusion to the Sinner and Saint series.Waverly has done a 180 degree turn. She has graduated from college, continued to make movies, and with training has become a covert operative for a film studio that has a secret side business doing government ops. Of course, this is after recovering from a near fatal stabbing and the devastating breakup with the man she still loves. Xavier, in the meantime, has moved across the country, expanded his security business around the globe, been involved with a few women, and all after leaving Waverly because he feels he failed to protect her from her stalker.As a reader it took a little time to accept the new Waverly...what I refer to as Waverly 2.0. In many ways the "old" Waverly was more appealing to me as the reader...unusual because I normally gravitate toward stronger female characters. However, after getting further into the story, I realized Waverly's changes were a coping mechanism and a way to take charge of her frenetic life. Now Waverly 2.0 and Xavier must once again work together as they try to solve the mysterious disappearance of her partner and take down the group who is responsible for a multitude of crimes including Waverly being shot. Of course none of this will be accomplished without lots of angst and a wicked awesome romance!Even though I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book I elected to actually purchase to show my support for a wonderful story and this incredible author! Thank you Ms. Score for another sleepless night as I devoured every wonderful word. Written like a highly entertaining movie, this second installment of the Sinner and Saint series by Lucy Score completely captivated me. The fast pace of the scenes had me turning the pages well past bedtime. Xavier is just as cocky & loveable and Waverly is tenacious & feisty. Them combined makes for some extremely fun reading.It's been five years since the terrifying incident with the serial killer, and Waverly is a very different person. She's stronger, more fit and agile. She has a secret and Xavier is back to find out what it could be.Without giving too much away, I loved the spitfire dynamic between our hero and heroine. They are snarky with each other and it makes for good foreplay. Waverly was crushed when Xavier left her. She is determined to keep him at bay, but something tells me that is not going to last long.As the reader, you're thrust into an exciting world of intrigue and espionage. There are bullets flying and kidnaps happening all while Xavier is making it abundantly clear that Waverly is his. No questions. No rebuttals. She. Is. His. I loved the strong, take charge hero, but it was the quiet, spoken from the heart endearments that truly made me love Xavier Saint.Lucy Score has such an addictive way of creating these characters that are multi-dimensional. With just a few choice sentences, a world is created that leaves you wanting more. At the heart of this story is Xavier and Waverly, but there is so much more surrounding them. There is a warm sense of family and togetherness that comes from many of the characters and that depth is what sets Lucy Score's writing apart. She is a master of making you fall in love with the assistant, or in-home chef, or the nanny-turned -stand in mother. This is why readers turn the page and keep going back for more.Another amazing story written by one of my favorite authors, Breaking the Rules is a fast-paced, edge of your seat, what's gonna happen next type of book that will leave you grinning like a fool.
