A summer camping and mountain biking together cements their friendship, but when Matt realizes he’s attracted to Jared, he panics and withdraws, leaving Jared all too aware of what he’s missing.Facing Matt’s affair with a local woman, his disapproving family, and harassment from Matt’s coworkers, Jared fears they’ll never find a way to be together. But for the first time, he has the courage to try… if he can only convince Matt. Meant to BeJared has simple goals for his freshman year of college: make friends, lose his virginity, come out, and maybe fall in love. He doesn’t anticipate getting caught between his friend Bryan and Bryan’s flamboyant ex. Through the awkwardness, Jared learns love doesn’t always mean sex and the most meaningful connections might have nothing to do with romance.

Book Promises (Coda Book 1) Review :

I kinda want to travel to Colorado after this. It just seems like such a beautiful place as Marie describes it…That aside, this is a solid, good love story. A love story where love does not come easy. I mean, insta-love is nice and all but makes the story less believable. For me.Not this story. This could have happened. For the most part ;)And it begins with a new friendship. Matt and Jared friendship seems to happen so naturally. I liked that a lot. Friends and nothing else, what with Matt being straight and all.Nothing else, aside from Jared falling in love with Matt without even realising it. It’s kind of sad to watch as he loves a man who will not love him back. But their friendship is more important to Jared than anything and so their relationship goes on as if nothing’s changed. And I liked Jared for that too. Also, he's a good storyteller, this book is all from his POV :)It’s close to half in the story when Matt starts to crumble. Starts to show interest. As in more than just friends interest.Up till then has been the perfect (straight) friend to a (gay) guy. Just a little hint here and there. But those could’ve been just as well a product of Jared’s hopeful mind. Or mine ^^But fear is a powerful emotion. Almost as powerful as love is.And so Matt takes a step back (or 7) from any other emotion he might be feeling. And lets fear take the wheel. But as strong as fear is, even adding denial to the mix… there’s jealousy. And desire. And we humans are easily corrupted. Most of the time, in the best way possible. And desire has Matt taking the control back. He wants Jared in his life. And then… let there be sex. And oh my fcking god, are they HOT together!Cause when Matt lets himself go, lets himself feel and adds those feelings to his desire for Jared already coursing through him… it is all-consuming.Mesmerising to watch the intense connection, the passion they have for each other.Several kinds of ‘holy sh*t this is fcking HOT!’You won’t always like Matt. I didn't. He had a chance or two to be a d*ck to Jared. And took them. And Jared is just so sweet, so caring and loves Matt so much… it breaks my heart seeing his breaking too.But I cannot presume to know what years upon years of denial would do to a person… and when it counts he’s brave enough to stand up for himself. And just love Jared without restraints. But it’s all or nothing. And then it’s Jared turn to freak the hell out and be the d*ck. He could have it all. And he suddenly is too afraid to take it. And so, almost lost it all.But ain’t love a wonderful grand? At the end of the day Matt and Jared love each other. They love each other so much that they’d do anything to just be together. It won’t be easy. But then again, life never is. And if you can get some entitled assh@le to shut the fck up every now and then, all the better ;PBeautiful is what life is. And too short for all the bullsh*t the world will throw your way to matter. There’s the HEA for you. Will make you day brighter ^^Enjoy!
Why did I wait so long to read this book? I kept hearing about it but I never actually sat down to read it. Yes. I'm kicking myself now. This book was so good. It didn't go exactly how I thought it would. It was better.I loved the friendship that built between Jared and Matt. They were so comfortable together. It made me feel good. When Jared's feelings for Matt deepened and he discovered how he really felt, I was sad for him. Then a little while later, my heart broke for him. I don't remember the last time I wanted to hit a character that I loved so badly but I wanted to punch Matt. I know. I know. He needed time to work through everything. But I was still upset.I guess it's only fair to tell you that I did love Matt and my heart broke for him too. He actually needed it a bit more love than Jared did. Jared had a solid family while Matt was saddled with the most craptastic dad imaginable. His co-workers were total jerks and he was struggling to come to terms with what he was feeling for Jared. He needed some love. The banter between them was fun and I really loved watching their friendship turn into something more serious . Their banter was fun and their
